Enhancement of Rotor Loading and Suppression of Stator Separation through Reduction of the Blade–Row Gap

An immersed boundary (IB) method is applied to study the effect of blade–row gap in a low-speed single-stage compressor. The advantage using an IB that rotor/stator interface can be eliminated and, thus, interaction considered at extremely small gap. was modified internal-flow problems, and adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) technique, together with wall model, used facilitate simulations for high Reynolds-number flows. results showed both pressure rise efficiency were observed higher smaller-gap cases. Comparisons between two gaps, 35%ca 3.5%ca, are highlighted further analysis specific flow coefficient increase stage performance contributed by enhancement rotor loading suppression separation stator. Correspondingly, increases total on stator outlets 0.5% 4.3%, respectively. Although outlet much lower than outlet, its significance level static formed near hub gap, which, reduces adverse gradient this region passage. This improvement suppresses thereby, considerable as consequence. unsteady fluctuation also presented.
